One of the top-rated haunted attractions is located here in Philadelphia within the walls of the massive, castle-like Eastern State Penitentiary. America’s most historic prison, Eastern State Penitentiary is an under-rated museum attraction in its own right, and visitors can explore this haunting world of crumbling cell blocks and empty guard towers 361 days per year. This experience in the daylight is spooky enough for some! But if you dare, come at night during this Halloween season when Terror Behind the Walls is operating. This haunted attraction is designed to frighten you with over 200 performers working throughout the 11-acre compound, with special effects and lighting, animatronic creatures, and custom props. Visitors to Terror Behind the Walls  have two options- to walk through and watch the action, or to mark themselves for true interactivity. If you decide to mark yourself for interactivity, plan to be grabbed, held back, removed from your group, or incorporated into the show. You choose your fate.  This year, there are six main attractions within the walls of the Penitentiary. With names that include Lock-Down, Machine Shop, Infirmary, Break Out, Quarantine 4D, and Blood Yard, which is new this year, you can imagine some of the thrills and chills within the confines of Eastern State Penitentiary.

Terror Behind the Walls closes on November 11 for the season. Be sure to check the website for tickets and dates and times of operation. Come visit day or night, if you dare!

The Eastern State Penitentiary is located at 2027 Fairmount Avenue in the Fairmount/Art Museum neighborhood in Philadelphia.
