Victorian Splendor
City Line
Built in 1896, this house was designed by the architect Joseph W. Huston, who designed the Pennsylvania State Capitol. Constructed of Pompeian brick and locally quarried rough stone, this seventeen room home is truly a late Victorian showpiece. The beautiful oak woodwork, oriental rugs, high ceilings and fireplaces evoke the elegance of a bygone era, but with all the modern conveniences including central air conditioning and wireless internet.
In the foyer, the grand staircase winds gracefully to the second and third floors where four guestrooms are furnished with lovely antiques. Choose the queen bedded or twin bedded room on the second floor, connected by a bath which has a footed tub with shower. On the top floor are two queen bedded rooms furnished with unique, carved furniture. The large hall bath features a Jacuzzi tub. Amenities, such as plush robes and chocolates, await you in your room.
A special feature of the home is a beautiful backyard garden and deck which overlooks an in-ground pool. In warmer weather, your hostess serves breakfast on the deck. Eggs Benedict, pecan waffles and French Toast are just a few of her gourmet specialties. Breakfast is served in the formal dining room in the winter.
Located in the historically certified area of Overbrook Farms, you can walk to the Barnes Museum and St. Joseph’s University from the Victorian Splendor. With the local commuter rail line just two blocks from the B&B, this is also an ideal spot for both business and leisure travelers. Within five minutes you will be at 30th Street Station, just blocks from the University of Pennsylvania, and in another five minutes at the Convention Center in Center City..
