This charming, private cottage allows you to explore the excitement of Philadelphia from a quiet setting near the Wissahickon Gorge of Fairmount Park, one of the few remaining urbanwilderness areas with 1500 acres of woods and 75 miles of trails.

An outside staircase leads to the private second floor entrance.  The first floor, until recently, was the violin bow making studio of your host.   The Cottage accommodates up to 4 people with a bedroom, living room, kitchen, dining area and private deck. Just outside is a large yard, a basketball net and swing -   the place for the kids to unwind.

Your hosts can recommend historic tours, museums and the best restaurants, including family-friendly places and good spots to hear music. Adagio Cottage is located five minutes by car from Chestnut Hill or Manayunk.  It is a three block walk to the commuter train to Center City which is a seventeen minute ride.  Weekly and monthly rates are available.

Built in 1940, this brick house with a stone façade is surrounded by lovely mature trees.  Walking in the front door, you feel as though you are entering the pages of a decorating magazine. Beautiful furniture and accessories create a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Enjoy the queen bedded room on the second floor with a private hall bath.  A double bedded room is available for traveling companions.   Long term guests have kitchen and laundry privileges.

Your host, a medical administrator, enjoys traveling and has visited the Caribbean and Europe many times. He also enjoys gardening and has spent many hours creating the beautiful landscaping of the property.

All That B&B

East Falls

Just a few blocks from the home of the governor and the senator of Pennsylvania, this tiny B&B is located in the commercial area of East Falls. You can stroll down the street for a cup of coffee or just a few blocks to the banks of the river.  As you walk, you may catch sight of local rowers. For hiking and biking enthusiasts, trails border the Schuylkill River. Main Street in Manayunk is a mile away. The local train line is less than a block away.

The brick townhouse has an inviting living room where you can read and relax. Two small rooms, each with a standard bed, share the hall bath on the second floor. Enjoy your breakfast on the glass enclosed porch as you watch the town come to life. Wireless internet connection is a plus.

Your interesting host has a DNA testing business and is involved in many local community programs. She also hosts a weekly phone-in radio show.  Misty Morning, the resident cat, may greet you. It is just a 10 minute train ride to 30th Street station.

Built in 1856, this historic home served as the residence of the mayor of Philadelphia in the 1920’s. The original high ceilings, six fireplaces, stain glass windows and center staircase now welcome visitors who desire a taste of the past with modern amenities.  Walking the neighborhood is like stepping back into another century, with large elegant homes and old world churches on every block.

Choose from two second floor guestrooms offering either a queen or king sized bed. The bath may be shared or private.  Every room has a phone, wireless internet access, and air-conditioning. Designed by Chandler, the famous architect and founder of the Department of Architecture at the University of Pennsylvania, this Victorian gothic mansion was built in 1877 for the prominent Jenks family, owners of several Philadelphia factories. Silvery stone from the Appalachian Mountains was used to construct this gracious home, now a delightful bed and breakfast.

Three spacious guest rooms are well appointed and offer cable TV, VCR and private bath. A computer room gives guests high speed access to the Internet. An elevator is a special attraction. Laundry facilities are available as well as a kitchen solely for guests’ use.

A gated entrance and private staircase lead to the second floor studio apartment and loft. The high ceilings, hard wood floors and stained glass windows are special features.

The apartment offers an inviting queen-size bed, modern mini kitchen, dining and reading area. The lovely windows provide ample light for reading, studying or relaxing. The spacious bath offers a clawfoot tub with shower as well as a small window which overlooks the garden. In addition there is a double bed in the cozy loft which is accessed by a spiral staircase.

Located in East Mount Airy, this accommodation is just a few short blocks from both the R-7 and R-8 local rail lines which have you to Center City in about 20 minutes. The Coachman's House

The Coachman’s House is part of a larger estate that was built in 1852 and renovated in the 1990s. Tucked away on top of a hill, the property is accessed by a long, winding drive through a park-like 3+ acre oasis in historic Germantown. The current owner recently renovated the two story cottage that once served as the coachman’s home and is adjacent to the former stables.

This suite has its’ own entrance and is tastefully decorated in earth tones. The first floor has a mini kitchen and dining area with a work space nook. Climb the stairs to the second floor which has a queen-size bed and private bath. Looking out the bedroom window, you will feel as if you are in a tree-house. The windows let in lots of light while the many trees provide privacy.

Your hostess currently works in administration in a local school. However, she puts her talents as a former bakery owner to work when stocking the kitchen with breakfast items. For stays of less than a week breakfast items are stocked in the kitchen for guests to help themselves to each morning. In warm weather guests may enjoy their breakfast in the lush garden.

Located just 15 minutes from Center City, the Coachman’s House is convenient for visitors who want to be close to the city and yet have a quiet, bucolic place to stay. LaSalle University is less than a mile away. The charming town of Chestnut Hill is also in close proximity. Weekly and monthly rates are available upon request.

Manayunk, situated on the banks of the Schuylkill River , offers a blend of urban chic with old world charm where there are over 50 boutiques as well as numerous restaurants and furniture stores. Just west of Philadelphia , Manyaunk Terrace is within walking distance of both bus and train service that will take you to Center City in about 15 minutes. Your hosts have lived in Manayunk for many years and reside on the upper floors of the townhouse.

Choose the spacious rear bedroom with the Four-Poster queen size bed and loveseat. The attached bath has a glass shower and double sinks. Or choose the other large bedroom which has a full-size bed, private bath and outside deck. Completing the B&B is a large living room with piano, seating and dining area, and mini kitchen with a microwave, coffee maker and small refrigerator which the hostess stocks so you can help yourself in the morning to breakfast. On a street with large shady trees sits a neo-colonial home of stone built in 1913. The single-residence, three-storied house features a column side porch and a lovely garden for relaxing. It seems made for large families and guests. The rooms are large and well-appointed.  Double-bedded and twin bedded rooms on the third floor share a large bath that has wooden accouterments giving it a sense of "homey country."  Guests enjoy a fabulous breakfast in the last of the great dining rooms.

Your hosts are an active family; the children are grown and on their own, but signs of grandchildren abound. Furnishings and accessories throughout the house reflect the hosts' travel and eclectic tastes. The hostess is a recently retired businesswoman and active in the League of Women Voters. Both are very helpful in making suggestions to guests about a day's activities, if requested.

This 1920’s three story stone colonial home is an interesting mix of eastern décor with traditional design. The second floor suite has a bedroom with a queen-size bed, desk and reading chair. The large windows provide abundant natural light, and the lovely linens and accessories reflect an Asian influence. The result is a very tranquil feeling when you enter the room. The private hall bath has a claw-foot tub and pedestal sink. There is an adjacent room with a queen-size futon that is available for guests needing more than one bedroom.

The third floor provides a perfect spot for an individual or couple looking for an extended stay. The bedroom offers a full-size bed with a pull-out trundle, comfortable chair and desk.
