Adagio Cottage

This charming, private cottage allows you to explore the excitement of Philadelphia from a quiet setting near the Wissahickon Gorge of Fairmount Park, one of the few remaining urbanwilderness areas with 1500 acres of woods and 75 miles of trails.

An outside staircase leads to the private second floor entrance.  The first floor, until recently, was the violin bow making studio of your host.   The Cottage accommodates up to 4 people with a bedroom, living room, kitchen, dining area and private deck. Just outside is a large yard, a basketball net and swing -   the place for the kids to unwind.

Your hosts can recommend historic tours, museums and the best restaurants, including family-friendly places and good spots to hear music. Adagio Cottage is located five minutes by car from Chestnut Hill or Manayunk.  It is a three block walk to the commuter train to Center City which is a seventeen minute ride.  Weekly and monthly rates are available.

Allen’s Lane B&B

Just a few blocks from the home of the governor and the senator of Pennsylvania, this tiny B&B is located in the commercial area of East Falls. You can stroll down the street for a cup of coffee or just a few blocks to the banks of the river.  As you walk, you may catch sight of local rowers. For hiking and biking enthusiasts, trails border the Schuylkill River. Main Street in Manayunk is a mile away. The local train line is less than a block away.

The brick townhouse has an inviting living room where you can read and relax. Two small rooms, each with a standard bed, share the hall bath on the second floor. Enjoy your breakfast on the glass enclosed porch as you watch the town come to life. Wireless internet connection is a plus.

Your interesting host has a DNA testing business and is involved in many local community programs. She also hosts a weekly phone-in radio show.  Misty Morning, the resident cat, may greet you. It is just a 10 minute train ride to 30th Street station.

Chestnut Hill B&B

Designed by Chandler, the famous architect and founder of the Department of Architecture at the University of Pennsylvania, this Victorian gothic mansion was built in 1877 for the prominent Jenks family, owners of several Philadelphia factories. Silvery stone from the Appalachian Mountains was used to construct this gracious home, now a delightful bed and breakfast.

First Ladies B&B

Germantown

Built in 1906, this spacious six bedroom Victorian Twin is in the Tulpehocken Station Historic District of Germantown.  Only one block long, Burbridge Street is a brick-paved, historically preserved street lined with old maples.

The second floor parlor room is an elegant, light-filled room with a large bay window, antique brass double bed, love seat, carved walnut desk, antique dresser and stone wood-burning fireplace.  The third floor four poster room overlooks the south garden.  It is furnished with a unique carved four poster Victorian double bed, antique dresser, comfortable chair and desk.  Each room is air-conditioned and has a ceiling fan.  The hall bath is almost private. Wireless DSL is available for guests. For long term guests, there is use of a modern kitchen. 

The two resident cats, Eleanor Roosevelt and Abigail Adams look forward to meeting you.  Enjoy the extensive parklands of Wisahickon Creek Park nearby with hiking, biking, and horseback riding trails. The commuter train is two blocks away and a twenty minute ride to center city.

This three-story stone home dates from 1890 and features high ceilings, leaded-glass windows, decorative moldings and hardwood floors. In nice weather enjoy the front porch or back yard.

On a street with large shady trees sits a neo-colonial home of stone built in 1913. The single-residence, three-storied house features a column side porch and a lovely garden for relaxing. It seems made for large families and guests. The rooms are large and well-appointed.  Double-bedded and twin bedded rooms on the third floor share a large bath that has wooden accouterments giving it a sense of "homey country."  Guests enjoy a fabulous breakfast in the last of the great dining rooms.

Your hosts are an active family; the children are grown and on their own, but signs of grandchildren abound. Furnishings and accessories throughout the house reflect the hosts' travel and eclectic tastes. The hostess is a recently retired businesswoman and active in the League of Women Voters. Both are very helpful in making suggestions to guests about a day's activities, if requested.
