1704 Bed & Breakfast
Brandywine Valley
Nearly three centuries ago, a colonial governor issued a land grant for a country home in the hills. The original house was built in the early 1700's. It was completed in 1820 as the proud, gracious structure that will welcome you today.
The country den is casual. It's yours to enjoy as you please, for quiet conversations or afternoon tea. Outside the restful verandah is the perfect place to enjoy the cool evening breezes. Explore the elegant living room, beautifully furnished with 18th century pieces and two fireplaces.
Each bedroom is furnished with an antique bed, topped with a wonderful quilt, and offers a private bath. There are wing chairs for sitting, fresh flowers from the garden and on cold winter nights kindling crackles in the fireplaces in the upper rooms. A few rooms have a Jacuzzi tub. In the morning, a very tasty breakfast, is served at the big kitchen table or out on the verandah. And outdoors, there is so much to explore - bikes for riding, even a full size swimming pool with Jacuzzi.

The Four Seasons Room, with wallpaper portraying seasonal scenes, has oversized windows. The Daniel Webster Room still has the original 1749 paneled mantel and fireplace. The Longwood Room was formerly coachman's quarters. The John Marshall Room, with gunmetal and cream striped wallpaper, has a fireplace and queen bed. All have modern, private baths.

Federal Victorian Mansion
West Chester
Designed by noted Philadelphia architect William Baldwin and built in 1860, the Federal Victorian Mansion has been lovingly restored and offers luxuriously appointed guest rooms, six of which are named for the children of Smedley Darlington who purchased the home in 1867. An astute businessman, he also served as a US congressman.
After a busy day visiting all that the Brandywine Valley offers, guests will appreciate the tranquil elegance and old world charm of this bed and breakfast. Wrought iron work from London frames the main entrance. Hand carved Honduras mahogany doors open to the expansive mahogany wrap around porch where in nice weather you can enjoy the beautifully landscaped grounds. In winter, curl up in front of one of the three fireplaces which grace the common rooms. High ceilings, oriental rugs, fireplaces, Monticello-style doors and teal paneling contribute to the beauty of the ground floor parlor, library and dining room. The grand staircase was hand-crafted from walnut trees on the property.
The warm, gracious hospitality of your hostess will further ensure that your stay is memorable.
